Make sure the toilet bowl is full before using the bathroom. Once done, fill the bowl to the top with water, right under where it sprays out, then flush down all at once! Next, Fill up the tank for the next person to maintain the proper water every time. A rush of water being flushed down all at once, most often, will combat any black tank issues. Hydro-Jetting should be part of your yearly routine for Full-Time Families, and every year-2 years for occasional travel.
Starting at the Toilet
Dumping
The rule of thumb is to drop your tanks around 2/3 full. Always drop the BLACK tank FIRST, then the GRAY to flush out everything after.
Open or Closed Valves?
Keep all tanks CLOSED AT ALL TIMES! Empty when they are around 2/3 full. There are SEVERAL reasons to keep all tanks closed, but the top 3 reasons are:
1. Prevents buildup in the bottom of the tank (Pyramids/ Clogs)
2. Prevents Bacteria/ Larvae/ Bugs
3. Prevents tanks from drying out and sensors from malfunctioning.
If there is no liquid in the tank, it cannot properly drain itself. There will be a build up at the bottom of the tank that puts off a foul odor, but, there is a high possibility that your tank will acquire some kind of bacteria or fly larvae from the septic system itself. We see a lot of small bugs and larvae get washed out when cleaning tanks.
Note: The only exception that allows you to leave your gray tank open is while running a washing machine, or if you have several people over that need to take a shower. Just close it and treat it when everyone is done.
Tank Treatment
We recommend a treatment that contains enzymes or good bacteria to help digest sewage, waste, and bad bacteria in a more organic way. When using a treatment with bacteria or enzymes, you have to make sure to use lots of water.
How to add Tank Treatment the Right Way!
Put the recommended amount of tank treatment in a 5 gallon bucket and fill the rest of the way with water. Slowly pour the entire bucket in your black tank through the toilet. This ensures that after flushing, your putting in the adequate amount of water back into the tank to coat the bottom. Do the same thing for your gray tank(s), and pour the water/treatment into your sinks and shower.
